CHRISTMAS ARCHIVE BY GEMMA PENYA FERRER.

For this season, GIGI STUDIOS invited image researcher Gemma Penya Ferrer to create a Christmas Archive — a series of collages that reflect on memory, family, and the quiet rituals that shape Christmas.

Through found imagery and printed fragments, the project explores Christmas as something intimate and enduring. An archive built from personal references that feel both individual and shared, where paper, time and memory come together.

"Every Christmas, when we’re back home and the family comes together, I take a quiet moment after the meal to look through my grandmother’s old photo boxes.

They’re filled with everyday scenes, family moments — small fragments of a past we’ve almost forgotten.

The dust, the paper, the faded colours remind me how these small memories still hold our story together."

"Each printed image is just a small fragment — a frozen moment already gone, yet still present.

They don’t really connect, but together they form a quiet archive of memories, a visual map of experiences that shaped us.

Holding them, feeling the paper and the ink, I can sense how intimate memory is."

"What I love about creating these compositions is putting together images from different contexts to create new visual imagery.

Here, the elements that evoke Christmas feel deeply personal, yet collective at the same time."
